Chapter Seven
Tricia watched as Dean charmed himself out of trouble with the police. His concerned neighbors made the call to the police department, who responded in less than fifteen minutes.
The older of the two policemen was pleased to meet Dean in person. Dean was kind enough to give him an autographed picture for the trouble he caused. Forty-five minutes later, they were alone again. He turned to look at her.
“You said it wasn’t loaded!” she accused.
“It wasn’t.”
“The hole in the ceiling proves differently.”
“Yeah.” He walked over to his bedroom and poked his head inside. “I wonder if Fred knows someone who can fix it.”
Tricia couldn't believe how calm he seemed. Didn't he realize the severity of what could have happened? She walked over to him. She looked up at the gaping hole and swallowed hard. “Dean,” she place her hand on his arm, “you took out the gun on—”
He held up his hand to halt her from saying anymore.
“I’m not in the habit of pulling out my gun and aiming at my head for fun.”

Dean didn't want Tricia to know, but he couldn’t help but feel a little uneasy over this. He didn’t remember loading his gun. He had no reason to. He only had the gun because he had gone shooting with Cliff a while back. He hadn’t taken it out since. He looked at Tricia, thoughts whirling in his head as he wondered if maybe she did know something.
“You’re from the future,” he stated rather than asked.
“Haven’t I been telling you this?”
“Yes, but I thought you were stoned. Actually I would prefer that you were.”
“Thanks,” she said. “I guess I can’t blame you. It does sound crazy.”
He looked at her a long time taking in her upturned nose, full lips, and honey-colored hair. She was sweet. Not exactly his type, but she was growing on him. Then it hit him. This chick wasn’t even born yet. If that didn’t just blow his mind, he thought. He ran his fingers through his hair.
“What are you thinking?” she asked with a slight tilt of her head.
“That I almost slept with a woman from the future.”
“I hate to be the one to break it to you, but we didn’t almost sleep together.”
“Come now. You time-traveled back to save me. You must have fantasized an instance or two what it would be like to have me sweep you off your feet.”
“For your information, in my time, you’ve been dead for decades. And if you were still alive, you’d be my father’s age.”
“Ouch. If that doesn’t put it all into perspective.” He moved away from her and headed into the kitchen. He needed a stiff drink, but he settled on coffee.
Tricia followed him. “I did wonder how it would be to kiss you.”
He whirled around nearly making her collide right into him. His dimple deepened as he smiled. “So now that you’ve been kissed?”
“I would have to say you’re a pretty good kisser.”
He reached for her and she sidestepped.
“We need to stay focused if we are to figure out who is trying to kill you.
